At Habitat for Humanity-Greater Columbus, our mission is to work in partnership with God and people to build affordable homes, empower families, and develop communities.

MISSION IN ACTION: Building Dreams
For Brenda Ruiz and her teenage sons Angel and Argenie, the new house on Minnesota Avenue represents more than place to live. With a son who is confined to a wheelchair with multiple health issues and another that is mentally disabled and blind, the Ruiz family needed a fresh start.
The New Albany Habitat Partnership handed over the house’s keys to the Ruiz family during a March dedication ceremony. Proceeds from EMH&T’s 2010 Golf Outing helped fund the build.
Brenda says she cannot describe how blessed she feels. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch-style house is fully handicap-accessible. In addition to the zero-step entrance, the house features a roll-in shower and plenty of room to navigate a lift that helps Angel get in and out of bed.
“Brenda helped build this house with her own two hands,” said New Albany Habitat Partnership Co-Chairwoman Jill Beckett-Hill. “There’s no place like home, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the look on their faces and seeing their dreams come true.”
